I was singing a song about letting my light shine — specifically “I Have a Light” by Don Potter. The thought came to me, what does it mean to let my light shine? I decided I should look up the verse that it is most likely referring to:
Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven. – Matthew 5:16
That led me to asking what works are they supposed to see? Here are a sampling of verses I looked up:
…this is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent. – John 6:28
…I showed you many good works from the Father… – John 10: 32
Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me; otherwise believe because of the works themselves. – John 14:11
…he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father. – John 14:12
